Alcohol Responsiblity
This guide collates advice published by relevant industry bodies (as at Oct 2005). It is intended to provide general guidance only. We recommend that you seek independent specialist advice if you have queries about legal or health implications arising from alcohol consumption.
Department of Health advice
Drink in moderation - current Government guidelines for England and Wales are:
3-4 units (or less) of alcohol per day for men
2-3 units (or less) of alcohol per day for women
Not drinking on one day should not mean excess on another.
What is binge-drinking?
The term binge-drinking appears frequently in the media, but what does it actually mean? There are many different definitions but, in essence, it is an excessive drinking session, often associated with anti-social behaviour.
